Water and Sanitation Improvement in informal settlements through gender mainstreaming and Empowerment of Local Authorities (2009-10)
Introduction:
Funded by UN-HABITAT Watson team, Pakistan the project aims to improve water & sanitation services and Hygiene condition of the informal settlements in District Rawalpindi by capacity building of line agencies and to involve community, through gender mainstreaming in particular in the decision making process.
Goal:
To improve health and sanitation within the informal settlement and empower women in the decision mechanism at community level
Objective: To provide safe drinking water and sanitation facilities in selected informal settlements by gender mainstreaming and empowering local authority to improve public health and sanitation
Specific Objectives:
• To identify and clarify issues related to women’s access to water in informal settlements; and
• To improve the capacities of the local authority to provide access to water for women in informal settlements, and to empower women in the decision making process through gender responsive community based approaches
Gender Based:
The project is based on the interventions related to improve WASA Condition identified by the Community, men’s & women’s separately ensuring active involvement of government and line agencies. Women would be involved in constructive time utilization through initiating “Reflective Circles”
